ABOUT ATELIER CPH
Atelier Cph is a multidisciplinary creative studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The studio is founded by Dutch art director Mandy Rep and Danish trend forecaster Sara Ingemann.
Our new design collection 'Deconstructed' is inspired by architectural sketches. The inspiration for architectural lines came from our research trip to Berlin where we visited the Bauhaus Archive. Bauhaus was a pillar of modernism and made space for experimentation in design, which we found interesting while researching for our new collection. The art movement De Stijl, which is all about pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colour, has also been an important influence for the collection. With this in mind we created an assembly of cubistic and geometric shapes that are positioned in layers, and where both vertical and horisontal lines meet. In our new collection we wanted to grasp the historical importance of these movements and translate it into a modern collection, where historical marks on paper, cut-outs and subtle pencil lines create a new minimalistic dimension in each piece. We tried to minimise our use of materials and experiment with the effects of light, where we let the shadows paint the canvas.
The new Atelier Cph poster collection is inspired by our research trips to France and Finland. In this collection we work with the idea of Gesamtkunstwerk, meaning a work of art that is getting inspired by multiple disciplines. We discovered that there was an interaction between some of France’s great modernist painters and sculptors, Fernand Léger, Jean Arp and the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. We got inspired by the use of abstraction that these artist experimented with and the connection between the South and the North. In this collection we experiment with a more organic abstraction and explore the layering of the colour white, by creating a collage of the materials paper and hand painted canvas. Graphic and organic shapes are created by contrasting colours and our newest experiment the tone on tone whites.
The Circle print collection is inspired by circles in various dimensions. For this series we have worked with hand painted textile and combined the round shapes with cut out lines to create a minimalistic composition. The art work is shot with a Hasselblad camera by the Danish photographer Jonas Danholt.
For the special edition Outlined we translated the circle universe into a more graphic approach. We combined hand painted fabric cut outs with digital grained shapes and connected them with thin white lines. The art work comes in a new colour palette where calm neutrals give contrast to the soft white and dark black.
THE ART OF FABRIC
The art work collection The Art of Fabric is based on translating fabric textures into a simple and minimalistic composition. The hand painted textile is cut in different abstract shapes and geometric forms. The art work is shot with a Hasselblad camera by the Danish photographer Jonas Danholt.
